Welcome to Keystone Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association
About Us
Welcome to the official site of the Keystone Chapter of the U.S. Harness Writers Association!
The state of Pennsylvania has long contributed to the sport’s media association, the United States Harness Writers Association (USHWA), including the current national secretary and many At-Large Directors over the years. After the rise of the state to a pre-eminent position in the sport due to support from slots gaming, the Keystone Chapter of USHWA was organized, as there were now enough potential members (writers, publicists, marketers, TV broadcasters), with the increased interest at racetracks, for the area to have its own Chapter.
The first meeting of Keystone USHWA was held on August 12, 2006, in conjunction with Adios Day. Roger Huston was elected President, and served for two years. At the 2008 meeting Kevin Decker was elected President and remained in that position for several years. Heather Wilder then was elected and she remains in that position currently. Roger Huston was elected Permanent Director, as each chapter has two representatives on the national Board, and Roger had served on the Board many times before, for the Florida Chapter and for At-Large.
The chapter funds itself primarily by selling advertising in self-produced journals and a coffee table book associated with major state harness racing events.
