As most great men in the hyphenate-sport of harness racing do, wore several “hats” in his career. He was the President of the Harness Horse magazine, a role later assumed by his son Bowman Jr, (Brownie); vice-president of the world’s #1 standardbred auction, the Standardbred Horse Sales Company; and through his mare Misty Hanover, bred 1957 Hambletonian winner Hickory Smoke and Hickory Pride, in whom he retained ownership with partner Max C. Hempt, both of whom went on to be outstanding sires. Carty Nagle, another Grand Circuit horse he owned, still holds the modern record with 41 consecutive victories and was named a Hall of Fame Immortal in 2013.
